The project
The state-funded "Trollhättan package" will make the road E45 between Gothenburg and Trollhättan to four-lane highway and the railroad to Norway, with the same route, double-track. The customer is the Swedish Transport Agency.
The planned route going through a danger zone of geotechnical stability problems, uneven subsidence and recurrent flooding. On several places there are contaminated soil to be cleaned up during the project. Road and railway runs parallel, near the Götaälv River, which serves as source of drinking water for half a million local residents.
The assignment
Cowi are responsible for several sections of the project. We have developed system and construction documents, RFQ documents (for procurement of suppliers and contractors) and railway plans for the project. We are also assisting the customer with the coordination of construction and environmental management.
Rail and road in the West involves resources from all disciplines in the field of infrastructure, from the project start in 2007 until the completion in 2012.
