The project
Chemrec AB has been appointed to conduct an pilot studie and basic design in order to build a gasification plant for the New Page, which is a major pulp and paper producer in Michigan, USA. The central part is Chemrec’s own gasification unit which has been developed over several years. Chemrec has a pilot plant for black liquor gasification at the Smurfit-Kappa plant in Piteå. Investment decisions on Michigan plant will be made in spring 2009.
The assignment
COWI has got the assignment to enforce a feasibility study until the end of October 2008. In this phase, detailed process descriptions will be developed. In consultation with New Page a detailed layout will be presented. Specifications for the process units are sent out on request for quotation to suppliers. The study will result in a budget for the total investment.
The COWI Management part of the assignment has been project management and we have worked together with COWI AB.
